Sir,
GOVER LEITE HOUSE,
HONG KONG
Joch July, 1948.
Referred in (5)
I have the honour to refer to my secret savingram No. 55 of 9th July, 1942, regarding the reduction of the number of places to which (1) the Protected Places (Safety) Amendment Ordinance, 1947, applies.
2.
The review of the situation has now been completed and I am pleased to be able to report that a reduction in the total number of places covered by the Ordinance has been made. Altogether five places (four of which are in built-up areas) have been deleted from the list ng
a result of this review,
3.
I regret that I have fund it necessary to add the following to the list of protected places:
Clear Water Bay Army Camp
367 Signals Unit, R.AF,, Tai Po Tsai,
The former is a wired-in Aray Camry containing valuable military stores and equipment. It is in an isolated country district, and having regard to the unlikelihood of any injury to innocent bystanders, I have consilered it desirable to afford it the protection of the Ordinance. The latter is a wired-in site containing valuable sig als equi ment of a highly secret nature. It also is in an isolated position and I consider that it requires the added protection afforded by the provisions of the Ordinance,
4.
In effect, therefore, a reduction of three has been male in the list of protected places. I shall continue to keer this question under review every six months, but I do not consider that the time is yet in sight when the provisions of the Ordinance will no longer be necessary, Indeed, having regard to the unsettled conditions obtaining on the Clony's land funtier, and the present disturbances in 17 laya, 14 ..icht happen that I should at come date in the future, regire to afford added protectim to Service installations.
I enclose copies of the Protected Places Declaration Orier, 1947, the Protected Places Declaration (Amendment) Order, 1940, and the Protected Flaces Declaration (Amendment Consolidation) Order, 19,
6 - AUG 1948 C.O. REGY.
